How much does a new metal roof cost?

For an average-sized home with a roof area of 150 to 200 square metres, expect to pay $13,000 to $25,000 for a new COLORBOND roof.

How often do metal roofs need to be replaced?

Most COLORBOND roofs have a warranty period of around 45 years – and, with proper maintenance, can easily last 60 to 70 years. (Keep in mind that you may need to replace the fasteners more often.)

Is it cheaper to paint or replace a metal roof?

It’s slightly cheaper to paint an existing metal roof. Most painters will charge $20 to $50 per square metre plus materials to clean, prep and paint your roof. By comparison, a COLORBOND replacement is likely to cost between $60 and $120 per square metre (including materials).

Keep in mind that painting is only suitable for refreshing a structurally sound, properly sealed metal roof. If your roof is damaged or corroded, a coat of paint won’t save it.
